Test Description:Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an autosomal dominant disease caused by a germ-line mutation of the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) gene. The disease is characterized by the development of hundreds of colorectal polyps in young adults. APC gene testing can confirm the diagnosis of FAP at the molecular level, justify the surveillance with colorectal endoscopy of those at risk, and aid in surgical management and family planning.
